At the morning we were greeted by rain and for a moment got worried that our trip to Ile Aux Prunes will turn into a very watery experience. Luckily after Joël from Fanilo Tours picked us up the skies began clearing and off we went to the port.
We were greeted by the captain and mechanic of our little boat, got our gear stored and headed to the ocean.

The island itself is roughly 300m wide and 2km long. It hosts the taĺlest traditional lighthouse in Africa (60m). Only permanent resident is the lighthouse keeper, and some fishermen from Tamatave stay there from time to time.
Upon touching the shores grabbed few pictures of the paradise beach that surrounds this place.
Then we began our walkaround the island, first heading to the lighthouse. My legs already cried in agony thinking of the climb ahead, but living in a building without elevator for a decade has had its benefits and my muscles bravely carried me all the way up.
And oh boy! It was worth it! The 360 view around was breathtaking.
Climb down was atleast easier, and we continue then walking around the island. So many beautiful things and sadly pictures do not do justice, you have to see it all yourself!
And finally the moment I had waited for the most.... snorkeling! Did see many fishes, some I do not know even names for, but the little moray I managed to see was definitely the top moment! The island is surrounded by coral reef, and as there were no other tourists I got it all to myself!

Then we were offered a great picnic lunch by Fanilo Tours. It was really wonderful local cuisine, with fresh ingredients and made with love!
And sadly, it was time to return. Could have stayed there for a week!

I want to thank Joël from Fanilo Tours once more, and his wife for the excellent cooking! If you ever come to Tamatave, give him a shout and he will make dreams come true!
